6 Tips for Driving In Wet Conditions

Whether you have years of experience or you just got behind the wheels, driving in wet weather can be dangerous and unpredictable. Although it seems like an easy challenge, a simple mistake could result in an unfortunate mishap. Safety starts before you drive. It is important to keep your car wet-road-ready whether it’s the rainy season or not. First of all, make sure your tires are in good condition and have good tire tread. When replacing new set of tires, opt to get good quality tires. The extra ringgit could make a difference during a bad weather. Besides that, make sure your vehicle’s lights are working and are bright enough to be seen during rainy weather. Keep your windscreen clean too as dirty or oily windscreen may result in blurred view during the rain.

While driving in rainy or wet weather:

Drive safely
Drive slowly when the roads are wet or when it is raining. Wet roads are also oily, and it reduces the friction between your car tires and the road. Keep a safe distance between your car and the car in front of you. There should be about 2 seconds or one car worth of distance between you and the driver in front of you. Driving at low speed also reduces chances of skidding or aquaplaning. Avoid speed breaking and turning sharply as this may skid your vehicle off balance. If that happens, keep calm and continue to look at where you wish your vehicle to go. Steer to the direction and accelerate slowly. Don’t slam the brakes as this will make it harder to control.

Turn your lights on
Rainy weather often restricts the driver’s vision. Turning on your headlights would provide better visibility for other vehicles to see you. During heavy rain, turn the blinkers on while you drive so drivers behind you can see you as well.
